Frequently asked questions

We understand that parents and young shooters have questions about safety. Here are some frequently asked questions and our detailed answers to address any concerns.

What are the most important safety rules to remember?

Always treat a gun as if it is loaded. Guns will remain cased until students are instructed to remove them to make ready and bring them to the line. Guns then are to be pointed at the ceiling or down range with a CBI inserted until instructed to remove CBI's. NO pellets or BB's are to be loaded until the Range Officer gives the command to do so. If it is necessary to stop firing in a real emergency, the person calling CEASE FIRING or STOP will do so three times to make sure everyone on the range understands that this is an emergency.

How do you ensure every kid learns to handle equipment safely?

At the beginning of the year and when a new student starts a class, they are walked thru the equipment. How it works, the safety features, and how to properly work the equipment. Then during the remaining year, we observe the shooters to see if reminders are needed on any of the equipment.

What common safety concerns do parents have?

A common concern is the risk of eye injuries. Our club requires that shooters and bystanders wear safety glasses in case there are any ricochets. The shooters are also observed to make sure they maintain safe gun handling practices.
