Hello everyone, we have some exciting things planned for some of our shooters and coaches coming up in June. We have the opportunity to go to Camp Perry in Port Clinton, Ohio to attend a CMP Junior Rifle Camp. We are sending 2 athletes and 2 coaches to train together and bring back this information to our shooters this fall.

Camp Instructors: Ryan Hinson will serve as the primary instructor for the camps, as well as the Camp Director. Hinson joined the program in 2018 and worked as a counselor with summer camps for three years while competing at Morehead State University. Upon graduating in 2021, he joined CMP full time and began his role as Camp Director in 2022. Also serving as a primary instructor will be Alana Kelly. Kelly has been with summer camp staff since 2017 and joined CMP full time after the summer of 2021 after graduating from the University of Mississippi in 2020.The other lead instructors for the camps will be former counselors, collegiate coaches, and other athletes and coaches who have experience at the NCAA, National, and international stages. Completing the staff will be a group of accomplished CMP staff members and collegiate athletes who will serve as assistant directors, gunsmiths, target technicians, and camp counselors. In addition, the camp material includes contributions from speakers who have Olympic and National Team backgrounds.

Typical Training Day: Each training day will start with a light warm-up and stretching, followed by a series of class presentations that prepare participants for training activities on the range. The training day may include light physical exercise designed to introduce sport specific options for physical training.

Instructional Topics: The camp schedule includes a variety of instructional topics and activities designed to help participants develop the tools necessary to excel as three-position air rifle athletes. Participants will learn how to: construct stable and balanced positions, personally tune their positions through an “inner position” approach, effectively analyze performance and training, set effective goals, control anxiety and self-talk, improve confidence, train effectively, optimize the performance of their rifle and equipment, understand safety and rules, understand the design of an appropriate physical training program, shoot finals, and optimize their performance in competitions.

End-of-Camp Match, Award Ceremony and Graduation: A formal competition (3x20 plus final) will be conducted on the last day of each full-length camp. Medals will be awarded for both sporter and precision classes at the conclusion of the competition, and the competition is also part of a combined CMP Cup Match where competitors may potentially earn Excellence-In-Competition (EIC) points towards their Junior Distinguished badge.

This is an amazing opportunity for our club, and we are excited to be able to offer it to our kids - (Katelyne Walker & Hunter Seibel) and coaches (Hope Wilson & Noah Stai). Our club is asking for help to pay for this opportunity with donations. We have a large amount of the camp cost covered, but we still have hotel stay, gas and meals to cover. Those items are not part of the camp costs. If you would like to donate to this amazing adventure, you can simply scan the QR code in this post or send a check to Vikingland Jr Shooting Sports at 211 8th Ave SE, Elbow Lake, MN 56531. I want to thank you in advance for any help provided. ~Hope

Stay informed about upcoming events

Keeping up with our exciting events is easy! Families can learn about upcoming activities by following our official webpage, checking for signs posted around Brandon, and looking for announcements in the local paper. We also make sure to inform our young athletes directly during class time about events like the Bingo.

Our club is looking for a gently used 6x10 or 6x12 enclosed trailer to store our equipment in since we don't have our own building. It would need to be inexpensive or have a very generous sponsor(s). If someone might have a lead on this item, please reach out to Hope at 320-304-0809. We would appreciate any help on this we can get.
